My friends, there’s a reason why Connecticut is in such a financial quagmire. Actually, there are many, many reasons. One of them – the one most near and dear to my liver – is that Connecticut is a blue state.

No, not that kind of the blue state. Well, yes, that kind of blue state too, but the other kind is what I was referring to. The puritanical blue state where a hard workin’ Wall Street executive can’t spend his $4000/day salary on God’s nectar on a Sunday.

Can you imagine the revenue it would bring? I can. The coffers, my friend, would be overflowing with wine.

So with that in mind, my friends, I am proposing two new laws:

1. The sale of alcohol shall be legal every day of the week, including Sundays. Want to roll into the local liquor store to replenish that jug of vodka you destroyed last night? Go for it. Want to show up at the local diner with a 40 in your hand? You betcha! Want to provide the wine at Sunday services? You know where you can get it!

2. After extensive consultation with top scientists at NASA, I am proposing the creation of a new day: Caturday. This day will be inserted between Wednesday and Thursday and will serve not only to keep local businesses open an extra day, but also provide an extra day for liquor and lottery sales.

3. I am also proposing a new 3/3 rule: All happy hours shall offer drinks for $3, starting at 3pm. Every day.

4. Every Caturday, the State will unofficially adopt the name “Connecticat”. In fact, it will be a feliney to not refer to the state with that name on that day.

Drink up, my friends. It makes dealing with the mess in the State easier.

Many of you have asked: just exactly who is Gideon and what qualifies him to be Governor. Is he a he at all?

At the GfG campaign, we strive to answer all your questions in as accurate a manner as our elderly memories and media advisers allow us to.

So here is a brief bio of Gideon:

I was born in Hannibal, Missouri, on August 30, 1910, and my father died when I was three. I quit school after eighth grade and ran away from home, living as a homeless drifter. By the time I was sixteen, I had begun compiling a petty crime profile.

I spent a year in a reformatory for burglary before finding work at a shoe factory. At age 18, I was arrested in Missouri and charged with robbery, burglary, and larceny. I was sentenced to 10 years but released after three, in 1932, just as the Great Depression was beginning.

I spent most of the next three decades in poverty. I served some more prison terms at Leavenworth, Kansas for stealing government property; in Missouri for stealing, larceny and escape; and in Texas for theft.

Between my jail terms I was married four times. The first one ended quickly, but the fourth to a woman named Ruth Ada Babineaux (in October, 1955) lasted. We settled in Orange, Texas, in the mid-1950s, and I found irregular work as a tugboat laborer and bartender until I was bedridden by tuberculosis for 3 years.

In addition to three children that Ruth already had, we had three children, born in 1956, 1957 and 1959: the first two in Orange, the third after he had moved to Panama City, Florida. The six children later were taken away by welfare authorities. I started working as an electrician in Florida, but began gambling for money because of my low wages. I did not serve any more time in jail until 1961.

The rest is history. Due to my insightful and well written petition for certiorari, Yale Law School gave me an honorary Juris Doctor in 1964 and I soon started the practice of law, becoming the first public defender in Florida. I represented my former brethren in many of their criminal trials, compiling a stellar 200-1 record of courtroom victories. After my appellate lawyer Abe Fortas was appointed to the Supreme Court, I started a successful appellate practice and argued several times in front of the Supreme Court itself.

I may or may not be gay. You are free to speculate among yourselves.

On the other hand, I am no Young Boozer. But then again, no one is.

Today, the Connecticut Supreme Court held that Susan Bysiewicz’s years as Secretary of This Fine State don’t count as legal practice, thus rendering her ineligible to be Attorney General of This Fine State, following in Richard Blumenthal’s footsteps.

Blumenthal, who had his own problems today, issued a statement about his misstatement about his own record of swimming and that other thing.

Folks, we here at the Gideon for Governor campaign are a truly different breed. We never make misstatements and there is no doubt about our record.

In that sense, we are Elena Kagan.

Wouldn’t you want her to be Governor of Connecticut? A smarter, nicer Jodi Rell?

Well that’s me, Gideon. Except for the female part.

I promise to lead you back to a semblance of sense and sensibility. Gideon will not steer you wrong. Vote for Gideon.

Hello and welcome to my campaign website. As outlined in this post on my blog, there are reasons why I think I would be best suited to become your next Governor. No, I don’t look like Obama, but I’m working on that.

This website is still a work in progress, but soon I will have all my platforms up for you to peruse. In the meantime, enjoy the theme song on the right and follow along with the new fangled media stream from twitter.
